Review: I got the 4080 version.Pros:- Magnesium Alloy chassis all round. It feels really solid, and the screen does not wobble when you type.- Beautiful mini-led display (only in 4080 and 4090 models). Awesome brightness and contrast.- The 16:10 aspect ratio and smaller bezel is definitely nice to have in a small laptop.- Performance in games is great when using DLSS or FSR or reducing the resolution a little bit (4K resolution on a small screen like this is overkill really)- system RAM can be upgraded. It’s one reason I went with this instead of the ASUS Rog Zephyrus G16.- seems like a perfect balance between performance, usability and portability.Minor cons:- My previous laptop was a 17″ MSI Stealth Pro from 2014, and I feel like the keyboard on this new model is good, but it isn’t quite as good as on my old laptop.- Had to uninstall the Anti-virus bloatware that came preinstalled.

Review: I got this computer on July 19 2024 and liked the fact that it has a very nice solid metal case and has a very low profile of around only 2cm. Also the length and width are not very large either so it fits nice in one of my smaller computer carry bags. I am not a gammer so cannot really comment on using it for games but will be using it to create animated characters in Character Creator 4. The reasons I wanted this computer is because it has the RTX4070 video card which should increase the rendering speed a lot from my 9 year old Asus computer. I also like the fairly high resolution display and full size keyboard.I did do some custom settings to change RGB lighting effects on the keyboard in hopes to get a really nice color difference between various areas of the keyboard but unless you are using the computer in very low lit areas you will not see a lot of illumination of the keys since it is quite subtle even on the highest illumination setting. I was hoping to get a keyboard effect similar to the Acer Predator Helios Neo which I saw listed on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-PHN16-71-767W-1920×1080-i7-13650HX-Processor/dp/B0CSQL3PTM/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=153DXDOBH8MP9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.s0czQh5idu7T02lw0_iJxhc4VJdffcgrP9LNMDCvlW3tzNl6iQLv6Fd0vAzkItKNR9xNTxMPXVSll_cp-g_H9fBa4AX8hB0S_NbegqvW3ygfbGbjrAPEYbE6WVujmS5PhgvIbN9rHbQMAWjV5tjaibm_zvShHjUoT_Q2OoMF3_Hh7ncFK0AaCWvWtpND_DzI7fdKr7_qpqsg0XZOBd0i1qPHiKpB8cHfw-pR-uBV0VVmlfEbjvCi7CWDWVtiAvJCJguWvPRFCtMkxu5brgkzadGiNm6hIqfxAzA3fbcUXK4.zW6Dhu4UazkE7GhdjJK5EXTpFk_DbKY1Ublpw0Clp9o&dib_tag=se&keywords=acer+laptop&qid=1724686930&s=electronics&sprefix=acer+l%2Celectronics%2C110&sr=1-1-spons&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.a4f9e18d-83e4-4dfa-94d2-717d5a20bf26&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1The other reason I liked this laptop is that it has a 99Whr battery and can last up to 10 hours under light operating conditions. For serious intense applications I am sure it will be much less than 10 hours but a 99Whr batter is the highest you can have for a laptop and still travel on a plane with it. Also most other gamming laptops I checked do not come close to 10 hours. Since I hang out in coffee shops a lot the battery life was important to me.I have not tested the computer under any demanding apps yet so will be interested to see if the unit runs cool and the fans do not sound like a jumbo jet taking off! I am sure there will be some fan noise but I think this will be true for most small laptops in this size range. For the basic things I have been doing such as email and watchin youtube the fans have been quite quiet.I should mention that I migrated my old files from my 9 year old Asus computer and started to do the migration with microsofts cloud based OneDrive. I do not recommend doing things this way unless you do not have a lot of data on your computer. I had over 1TB on my old Asus and started the process to upload my data to the OneDrive cloud and then saw a bunch of small spinning icons on my destop folders. I think this was to indicate that data in these folders was being transferred to the cloud.During this time I was not longer able use my Outlook email program to check my email since my Outlook mail files were being transferred to the cloud. I thought something went wrong when I could no longer access my Outlook email and OneDrive did not show any information of how long things would take. OneDrive also hijacked my computer and decided to change the directory struction of my files without asking. It changed the files stucture from “C:UsersDaveDocumentsOutlook Files” to “C:UsersDaveOneDriveDocumentsOutlook Files”.What OneDrive did was creat a redirect link to the new location. This may not sound like a big deal but it confused me and I deleted a bunch of email files in the new location thinking they were still in the old location. I lost around 9 months of emails! Also I thought something was not working correctly since I had no idea of how long this would take since I had around 1TB to transfer to the cloud so I stopped the process and decided to do the migration a different way.I then decided to recover a backup file of my old Asus computer using AOMEI backupper app. It looked like it could work but I was not sure. I installed the backupper app on the new MSI computer and everything seemed to be going fine since the backupper app completed but after the first boot up I got the blue screen of death. Basically it did not work and actually wiped out everything from my new MSI computer. I tryed to do a complete install using a windows 11 boot drive but it could not even detect my SSD drive.I call MSI support and they said I lost everything and would send me out a USB drive so I can get back to a factory install condition. The big down side to this is that it took around 1 full month and many phone calls to MSI to get a tracking number for this USB drive. I was getting impatient and so went on to Youtube to see if anyone else had a similar problem where the external Windows 11 boot drive could not detect the SSD drive and found this problem to be more common than I thought. What I discovered is that by going into the bios of the MSI laptop I could get information about my SSD and then find out details of a file I needed so that Windows 11 boot drive could detect the SSDdrive. I just needed to download that file from Intels website and then when I get to the screeen on the Windows 11 boot drive I see an option to browse to a file. This is the file the boot drive needs to be able to communicate with the SSD when you lose everything. After installing that file the rest of the recovery went faily smooth but I then needed to go to the MSI website to get the drivers and utility files to optimize things. By the time I finally got the USB drive from MSI, I already had all my data migrated and installed in the new laptop. For migrating I used an app called easeUS that I paid around $65CAD for. It worked well to migrate around 95% of my apps but as expected I still needed to manually install a few other stubborn apps. All in all I think easeUS was worth it for the time it saved me from doing everything manually since I have a lot of apps. One other thing I did was to use robocopy which is part of most windows operating systems. It is used in the windows command prompt. It allowed me to copy files from my old computer to an external drive without losing information or giving errors about file names being too long. This was often a big problem by just using copy in paste in windows. Also robocopy allows you to copy the files and change the folder structure so you can put the files in a new location on your new computer if you want. You can search for videos on youtube about robocopy if you think it could help you. A lot of the paid apps for file backup and recovery force you to keep the same directory stucture which I was very surprised about. Maybe there are some that have more flexibility but I found robocopy was very easy to use and is free with most window operating systems. I hope some of these tips are usefull for anyone else who runs into a similar problem that I had.Happy computing!

Review: I am returning this laptop:Pros:- Well built, appearance clean- Good specsCons:- Laptop comes with windows 11 home (it should be the pro version to match price and specs)- Peripherals do not work well (webcam didn’t work)- Work temperature is way too hot, even when only using the browser- Battery- For an AI ready laptop, it is a shame that the webcam doesn’t even work.
